Helen Rinauro, who came to Tracy from the Santa Clara Valley in 1955, still has vivid memories of arriving here. “Paul (her late husband) and I had farmed in the Santa Clara Valley, and when we decided to move to Tracy, some of our friends said, ‘You’re moving to Tracy, where’s that?’” Helen said the move, “a bit scary at first,” turned out to be a great success.
“We met so many new people who were very friendly and welcomed us,” she said. “It was wonderful how soon we felt we were right at home.” Helen recalled coming to Tracy 63 years ago as she celebrated her 100th birthday Tuesday at the New Hope care center, where she has been a resident since 2009. She was born Jan. 30, 1918, in San Jose, where her family, including her parents, four brothers and two sisters, had moved three years earlier from Sorrento, Italy.
