But no passport is necessary to visit Little Italy, a charming San Diego neighborhood that has been revitalized in recent times to capture its history, as well as the modern-day needs of a thriving city.

Little Italy, once a bustling fishing village in its locale just a few blocks from tuna-abundant Pacific waters, fell into decay when the 1970s fishing industry shifted to other countries like Thailand and Taiwan. Most of the Italian population moved; buildings and homes were abandoned.
