Commissioned by San Francisco Opera, the world premiere of Two Women / La Ciociara (2015) raises enduring and complex questions about love, loyalty, and the legacy of war.

This opera takes its name from the eponymous Italian novel by Alberto Moravia that was adapted for the screen by Vittorio De Sica, thus making cinematic history when Sophia Loren became the first to win the Academy Award for Best Actress in a foreign-language film in 1961.
