The Director of the world renowned Galleria Borghese Museum in Rome, Anna Coliva will present the museum its rich history and the museum's Caravaggio research project on the occasion of the loan of three of the museum's masterpieces by Caravaggio to the J. Paul Getty Museum. The exhibit, Caravaggio: Masterpieces from the Villa Borghese, will be on display at the Getty Center through February 18, 2018.
The Galleria Borghese is home to the most extraordinary group of Caravaggio's paintings and is considered one of the most important museums in Italy including paintings by Raphael and Titian, as well as sensational sculptures by Bernini.
Anna Coliva, began working with the Galleria Borghese in 1994 as an art historian and in 2006 she was appointed Director. She has written over 100 publications and is dedicated to the appreciation and study of artists including Bernini, Caravaggio, Parmigianino and Roman painting in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 2013 she received the Légion d'Honneur from the President of the Republic of France for her invaluable cultural contributions.
Davide Gasparotto, Senior Curator of Paintings at the Getty Museum and will introduce the event and present the Caravaggio exhibit which he curated.
Presented by the IIC with the Galleria Borghese and in collaboration with the J. Paul Getty Museum.
