San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti recently delighted Bay Area opera enthusiasts by announcing next seasons opera productions, four of which are works of famous Italian composers.
The apex of the season will be the world premiere of a brand-new opera by the Italian composer Marco Tutino, La Ciociara. It is based on the novel by Alberto Moravia, which inspired the celebrated 1960 film Two Women starring Sophia Loren, about a woman and her teenage daughter attempting to flee Rome during World War II.
