We congratulate Italian American Kevin McCarthy as the next Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Speaker McCarthy's mother, Roberta, is the daughter of an Italian immigrant. Her maiden name is Palladino. Speaker McCarthy was first elected to Congress in 2006 after serving one term in the state legislature.

He represents California's 23rd district, a region of congressional voters to include the city of Bakersfield and the counties of Kern, Tulare and part of Los Angeles county.
