The Italian American Museum of Los Angeles has decided not to press charges against protestors who defaced the DTLA landmark with profanities. Instead, the nonprofit is raising funds to restore it. The institution was vandalized during a protest against President Donald Trump.
“It’s a truly tragic turn of events as the IAMLA honors the legacy of Italian immigrants in the United States and, particularly, to their contributions to Los Angeles,” according to Marianna Gatto, museum director. Gatto said this is not the first time the museum has faced march-related vandalism. Building repairs are costly, as the museum is supported through donors and the board.
