In Italian culture, food and family go hand in hand. That's especially true for Bethlehem Township resident Lisa Prass and her family. In fact, they have a closely guarded family recipe for tomato gravy (aka "sauce") that's central to many of their pasta dishes. "It's my grandmother's recipe," Prass says.
Prass and her mom, Jean Palumbo Wertman of Allentown, teamed up to enter that recipe in an amateur culinary competition held as part of Festa Italiana. The debut festival celebrated all things Italian, including food, wine and live music and was held last month in Bethlehem.
