This town of less than 15,000 residents expects to see a surge of about 70,000 visitors this week during the 142nd Our Lady of Mount Carmel Festival.
The weeklong festival, which started Monday but officially begins Tuesday, is billed as the “longest-running Italian festival in the U.S.” and is organized by the independent nonprofit Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society. The most well-known Italian festival in the country, the Feast of San Gennaro in the Little Italy section of Manhattan in New York City, is only 91-years-old.
