The holiday's origins are rooted in medieval Sicily, when a great drought had struck the countryside. St Joseph is said to have answered the people's prayers to end the drought - the rains came and the crops were planted.

The people of Sicily celebrated the miracle by hosting a large feast with the crops they reaped, inviting the less fortunate people of the village – especially the homeless and the sick. This has become known as "La Tavola di San Giuseppe" (St. Joseph's Table). The tradition is still practiced in Sicily and worldwide, especially in Italian American communities of Sicilian descent.

Join us in sharing our St. Joseph's Table March 16! This Sicilian celebration is a wonderful opportunity to gather together as a community to continue our Italian traditions.
