A ceremony was held today to honor veterans at the 42nd annual Undo's Upper Ohio Valley Italian Festival, where two local veterans were specifically recognized for their service in the United States military. Angelo Samuel Decrease and Leslie "Wayne" Hill of Wheeling were honored for their distinguished service.
Decrease, a veteran of the Korean War, served from 1950 to 1952 as a corporal with the United States Army's Fifth Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. His service earned him the honor of the Purple Heart. Hill served in the US Navy in aviation ordnance and later as a master of arms, feeling the call to serve after the 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor. Both men, now over the age of 95, were left speechless by the recognition.
