Columbus Day was all about celebrating the contributions of Italian-Americans to Vineland in the annual ceremony on the steps of City Hall on Monday. "The Italian community has done so much for this city," Mayor Ruben Bermudez said at the start of the noon ceremony. "They are a critical part of our growth and development as a community."
About 50 residents came out to celebrate the day, many of them donning the Italian flag. A larger version of that red-white-and-green flag rose up a flagpole, just after the crowd finished singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and pledging allegiance to a red-white-and-blue flag.
