Dolls, dresses and meals, all made with love, have been a part of Jean Marano's remarkable life. Marano, who will celebrate her 100th birthday June 24, was the guest of honor at a celebration of June birthdays held at Northwind Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in East Lansing, where she lives.
"I don't feel like 100," she said. "As far as (turning) 100, it's only a number. But it's a big number." Marano and other residents enjoyed a cake that featured an illustration from one of her children's books about a dog, Jumbo, who joined the family when her daughter, Lydia, was an infant.
