Hours after the looting and mayhem plunged Chicago back into despair, a bit of salve arrived courtesy of Enrico Mirabelli, a longtime customer of jeweler Paul Young’s store in the Loop. Mirabelli was passing by on his way to work — and then stopped. Young needed help clearing debris. Mirabelli picked up a hammer and began knocking down shards of the broken front window.
“If you’re a friend, you can’t just walk by,” Mirabelli told Block Club Chicago. There you have some words to live by, especially in Chicago, especially this year. Put that slogan on a T-shirt and sell it at chambers of commerce fundraisers.
