Metro Detroiters craving some pasta and Italian-themed activities are invited to Freedom Hill County Park for Festa Italiana July 15-17. Festa Italiana Chairman Joe Ventimiglia, from the Italian American Cultural Society, said the festival has drawn an estimated 25,000 visitors over the weekend in the past. Part of the event's appeal lies in the local Italian community's ability to come together away from the worries of everyday life, he said. But he added that people of all ethnicities will find lots to love.
"Everybody wants to be Italian for that weekend," Ventimiglia said. "There is a lot of camaraderie. There is a lot of good food. There is a lot of good music. ... It's been over 40 years that this has been going on."
