The celebratory event honored the Italian American Cultural Society’s founding fathers, past presidents, Italian American organizations, community leaders, and supporters on Saturday, December 2, 2017. IACS President Sandra Tornberg and Esther Beaudette, Gala Chairwoman hosted its gala at the beautiful Italian American Cultural Society Banquet & Conference Center with more than 300 people attending. It was an unforgettable evening in celebration of the Society’s 60 years. 

The evening began with a lavish cocktail reception featuring hors d’oeuvres created by Executive Chef Alex Lozovoj. During the cocktail hour guests viewed a historical exhibit with photos and artifacts dating back to the founding of the IACS.  They also posed for souvenir photos taken by the very talented photographer Anne Nicolazzo.

Presentations and remarks were made by distinguished guests. State Representative Peter J. Lucido presented special tributes to the Italian American Cultural Society signed by members of the Michigan House of Representatives.  He also presented a special tribute to President Sandra Tornberg for being the first female president in the IACS' sixty year history.

Macomb County Treasurer Lawrence Rocca presented a proclamation from the Macomb County Board of Commissioners commemorating the IACS on the occasion of our sixtieth anniversary.

Clinton Township Trustee Joseph Aragona presented a resolution from the Charter Township of Clinton. Mr. Sergio Iacobacci communicated greetings from the mayor and citizens of the town of Aielli (AQ), Italy and stated that a plaque is on its way.

Following the reception, guests were treated to a decadent four-course dinner and beautiful live Italian American music performed by entertainer Pino Marelli and his orchestra.

The IACS is rapidly growing due largely to the success of our banquet facility. The proceeds from this anniversary event will go to the IACS Building Fund for the purposes of additional   classrooms, library/archives, meeting rooms, and members’ room. The directors of the IACS board are looking in to and considering options for a new building on our property.
