From pastries to pasta and pizza, Italian food was the focus of the Italian-American Festival at Lock 3 Park, which took place July 13-15. Those who attended the annual event could walk through a midway of booths and trailers offering a range of Italian specialties and other festival favorites. Shown at right is the Corbo’s Bakery booth as an employee prepares a funnel cake for a customer. Corbo’s is located in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood. The business also offered fried cannolis.
The fruit of the vine was also celebrated at the annual homemade wine contest. Shown below, from left, are John Villilo, of Green, and Frank Cornacchione, of Akron, as they sample some of the entries. Throughout the weekend, flags from regions of Italy lined the steps leading to Lock 3, as pictured at top. While food and drink were popular attractions, the festival also included musical acts on the Lock 3 stage. Fireworks concluded the festival.
