A new exhibition at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in western Michigan features the work of Italian sculptor, painter, printmaker and installation artist Mimmo Paladino, including a massive installation of life-size terra cotta figures and two new works by the artist.
Titled "Mimmo Paladino: Present Into Past," the exhibition includes "Dormienti," or The Sleepers, in the Balk Gallery's main exhibition space. "Dormienti" is composed of 32 life-size terra cotta figures of people that are spread along the gallery floor. Each is shown in a reclined position, as if sleeping.
