by Angelo D. Donze.
Today I am honoring my father Angelo Donze. My father was an immigrant that came to Kansas City in 1960 from Camporeale, Sicily. Like most immigrants, they followed their families and wanted a better life. He resided in the North East part of Kansas City called "Northeast" In the beginning he worked for Roma Bakery, Lexington Plumbing and later on branched out on his own.
He began selling produce down at the City Market / River Market. My father was a main fixture down at The City Market From 1962 - 2003. During this time my father also owned and operated Donze's SuperMarket and Liquor store on Independence Ave and Benton Blvd. He was well known around the community. He was a very humble man and had a "Bigger than Life" personality. He loved his family very much and worked along side my mother so they can provide for their family and live the American Dream.
He had a passion for work and the customers he served. To say my father was a hard worker and dedicated was a true understatement. Work was in his blood. As a small boy around the age of 10 he'd wake up early so he could help his father on the farm. He knew the only way he would make it in this country was hard work and perseverance. He with my mother raised 4 children and we all grew up working at the businesses. In 2009 my father passed & will be remembered for his generosity, hard work, dedication, his love for the community, his family, and most importantly being the best father, grandfather and husband.
