Oelwein’s Italian Heritage festival will be returning on Saturday, Aug. 10, to continue the tradition that was started several decades ago in Iowa. Dominic “Squint” Pirillo began the celebration with others back in 1973 to honor their heritage and history of the area. This year will be the 51st anniversary of the festival and has lots in store, starting at 10 a.m. with a bocce ball tournament.
For those who haven’t played before, a test run will be held at 4 p.m. Friday night, Aug. 9, at Red Gate Park before the festival on Saturday. If you think you can win, then join the tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday with another person to win the grand prize of $100, sponsored by Performance Rehab. For entry information, contact Anthony Ricchio at 319-509-0510.
