One of Omaha’s oldest summer festivals shifted into high gear Friday. The Santa Lucia Festival is 101 years old, and organizers are working to make sure this annual tradition continues. Trish Geiver is checking on some of the treats that will be served up at the festival. “This one here, we have sausage, and here’s the peppers for the sausage,” she said.
Trish has plenty of young help to get ready for the annual celebration, and she hopes the children pay attention as to why this festival is so important. “We need to teach the younger generation about our heritage and where their ancestors came from, and he traditions their ancestors did, we love doing this and that’s one of the biggest reasons in order to bring up the children and teach them all this,” she said.
