Like another Italian-American mayor who presided over Boston City Hall for 21 years, it seems that Mayor James Fiorentini is likely to also have the same job in Haverhill for as long as he likes. But while the 70-year-old Fiorentini, who was elected to a record eighth consecutive term Tuesday night, still has a few years to go before he catches Thomas Menino, who served the city of Boston from 1993 until his death in 2014, he is non-committal about what the future will hold at the end of his next term in 2019.

“Who knows?” said Fiorentini, who ran unopposed for the second straight election Tuesday and received 7,292 votes, good for 70 percent of the votes cast. Overall, 10,413 ballots were cast, with 2,427 of those ballots were blank, while 694 votes were for write-in candidates.  After serving eight years on the City Council, Fiorentini jumped into the 2003 race to succeed Mayor John Guerin and won his first term.
