Former Governor Argeo Paul Cellucci passed away Saturday after a battle with ALS.

Argeo Paul Cellucci was born April 24, 1948 to Italian-American parents Priscilla and Argeo. He grew up in Hudson. A Republican in Massachusetts, Cellucci was well-liked and respected. In fact, he never lost an election over his three decades in elected office, which not many politicians can say. Cellucci served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1970 to 1978. He married his wife Jan and together they had two daughters, Kate and Anne.

The Hudson native got into politics in the 1970s as a state representative before moving to the state Senate where he served from 1985 to 1991. From there, he became lieutenant governor. In 1997, he became acting governor when Bill Weld resigned. On Nov. 3, 1998, Paul Cellucci was elected as the 69th Governor of the Commonwealth. He was bipartisan, fiscally Conservative, and held one of the best records for reducing taxes the state has yet to see again. Cellucci did get some heat, though, for spending on the Big Dig project.
