Gotta be Italy, right?
After all, Gabriele Carcano, if you haven't guessed from the name, is Italian. And, although he's not Italian, Newburyport Chamber Music Festival artistic director David Yang has been flying over to Italy usually at least twice a year, performing at Incontri a Canna and Ischia, two international chamber music festivals, both in southern Italy, for years now and has a real feel for the country and its musical — and culinary — traditions.
So that's where the musical hookup for this year's NCMF Spring Concert happened, right? Wrong.
It happened closer to home, in connection with the Marlboro Music Festival, a prestigious chamber music blowout held every summer in the wilds of Vermont — a place where "a lot of those moments when you feel that music's flow reveals the flow of life and you're moving in it," Carcano has written.
