Wellesley has barely emerged from a years-long and often bitter battle over Indigenous Peoples Day vs. Columbus Day, which officially ended last spring when the Select Board voted in favor of replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day on the town calendar. It will be celebrated on the second Monday in October in Wellesley.
But the discussion wasn't over. As Tory DeFazio, a local businessman whose family has deep roots in the town's Italian American community noted this week, the Select Board has recently announced that October is National Italian American Heritage Month in Wellesley.
