"On Being Italian: A Story of Food, Family and Faith," the latest offering in The Republican Heritage book series, lives up to its title at a special event on Saturday afternoon. The book will be available for sale at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church's A Taste of Italy on Saturday, 4:30 to 8 p.m., at the school auditorium at 36 Margaret St. in Springfield's South End.

"On Being Italian" chronicles the Italian-American community in Western Massachusetts from its beginnings to the present. The Republican Executive Editor Wayne Phaneuf and Mimi Rigali, retired managing editor at the newspaper, who helped edit and write the nearly 300-page book, will be on hand to sign copies. Offered at a special reduced "event price" of $34.95, The Republican will donate $5 from each copy sold at A Taste of Italy to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
