October is Italian-American Heritage Month! To mark the occasion, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno led a ceremony at the newly re-opened Italian Cultural Center in the city’s South End. The center was shut down by flooding a year and a half ago. The center’s President, Stephanie Spolzino, told 22News, the center will now play an important role in the Italian-American Heritage month-long festivities.
“We have many events for many different ages actually,” said Spolizino. “We love seeing children come in here with their nonnos and nonnas and we have cooking classes, we have lectures.” During the entire month of October, the Italian flag will fly over the Springfield City Hall.
