Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Parish seeks a waiver that would permit the historic but crumbling Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to be knocked down sooner rather than later, city officials said Thursday.

Parish representatives will appear before the city Historical Commission June 9 to make the case for a demolition-delay waiver, which would mean the parish wouldn't have to wait 12 months before demolishing the church building, said John Hill, a spokesman for City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr.
