The Italian Cultural Foundation pulled out all the stops Friday, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge with a reception and dinner party befitting the bridge. It seemed appropriate for the celebration to take place in Casa Belvedere on Grymes Hill -- an organization dedicated to promoting, preserving, celebrating and highlighting Italian arts and culture.
"We are celebrating the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the naming of the bridge after Giovanni da Verrazzano by doing what Italians do best -- by eating and drinking and also a fireworks display," said Gina Biancardi, founder/president of the Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere. "One of the reasons I love this location is because it's close to the bridge -- this is an unbelievable structure. It's known all over the world. When I visit Italy, they know about the Verrazano-Narrows."
