The Alabama home football season kicked off on Saturday, and so did AL.com's Tailgate of the Week series. We begin with Bama's Italian Tailgaters, a group of Birmingham families whose children attended and recently graduated from the University of Alabama. The tent, which features a large colorful sign reading "Bama's Italian Tailgaters say Roll Tide" on the outside, is number 89 and located in the heart of the Quad.
This marks about the fifth year the families have had the tailgate, and the Quad can't help but take notice to the alluring aroma of homemade Italian cuisine once they take the foil off of the freshly cooked food, mostly prepared by Rosemary Scaturo Jowers, better known to the families as "Mama Ro."
