Beverly Childs, executive director of the Anderson County Museum, took a trip to southern Italy in October, and now she is helping bring a slice of Italy to Anderson through the International Festival. Childs, a festival committee member, remembers walking through doors of Catholic churches in Italy and seeing the exquisite stonework and mosaics.
But not many people who aren't Catholic know the connection between those Italian churches and Anderson County. Through the museum, Childs is making that connection from exhibits outlining the Italian influence on Anderson County through the Franciscan Order, a group following the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, Italy.
