Community members are remembering Dr. Bernardo "Bernie" Carducci as a beloved friend, colleague and professor. Carducci, 66, died Saturday, Sept. 22. He taught psychology at Indiana University Southeast for 37 years, and he was the founder and director of the IUS Shyness Research Institute. His research on shyness gave him international recognition. He published many books on the topic, and he appeared on programs such as "Good Morning America" and the BBC.
Brigette Adams, faculty secretary in the IUS Social Sciences Department, has known Carducci since she was a student there in the late 1980s. She was on the Campus Activities Board, and he would frequently attend university events. "We got to be friends, so when I started working in the social sciences, he was the first person to come welcome me when I got my full-time job," she said. "We have been friends for many years."
