A former Milford resident now living in South Carolina appreciates his Italian-American heritage so much he wanted it officially recognized. With the help of legislators, Fred Nesta, who moved from Milford to Myrtle Beach six years ago, saw his efforts come fruition when a law was passed this year declaring October Italian-American Heritage Month.
"One of the things that's always been important to me is spreading positive Italian-American culture," said Nesta. Atypical for the South Carolina Legislature, which tends to only pass one-year proclamations for this sort of request, the Senate backed it unanimously and the House passed it 75 to 13.
