Joseph Petracca made his name as a residential and commercial developer, helping to transform Akron's Merriman Valley into a commercial center and building dozens of other properties. 

Family members, however, say his earlier focus of coaching remained his great passion. "As much as he loved building," his son Mark said Thursday, "I think if my pop could have waved a magic wand, he would have wanted to be a head football coach for a major college."
