Whitesburg (KY) is set to formalize its Sister City partnership with a town in Southern Italy and an official from that town will be visiting next week. Assistant Mayor Dr. Paolo Voci of Sant’Andrea Apostolo Dello Ionio (Calabria) will be in Whitesburg Monday for a ceremony to seal the relationship.
The Mountain Eagle reports Sant’Andrea is the birthplace of many of the stonemasons who lived in Letcher County including the Mongiardo family, whose name became Majority, with families that currently live in Whitesburg and Hazard. The Sister City event is Monday from 9am to Noon after which Dr. Voci will tour the County.
