Il Circolo, the Italian Cultural Society, enjoyed an afternoon of learning, eating, music, sports and celebrations, all in one day. “Pranzo,Vino, Bocce”. The genesis of the event was a culinary demonstration to commemorate the establishment of a new Il Circolo scholarship fund in the culinary arts.
In collaboration with our friends at Arturo’s Ristorante in Boca Raton and other members and supporters of Il Circolo, it turned into an event that was thoroughly enjoyed by about 100 attendees. After an abundant buffet course of outstanding antipasti, Arturo’s Rosaria and Vincenzo Gismondi and staff showed their unique preparation of pasta a la vodka, flaming the liquids before adding the rest of the ingredients, and then serving it to all.
Following, was a demonstration of zabaglione for dessert, which went down so easily. All this with wine and music by tenor Carlos De Antonis, pianist Sergio Salani, and Italian pop singer, Mary Carmen Siciliano. You’d think that was enough, but no!
Dr. Douglas De Orchis and his family decided to have Il Circolo join in the celebration of their father’s 95th birthday along with the birthday of his dear friend, Emilio Petti. Out came champagne for all and two huge cakes of the most delicious tiramisù. Hard to believe, but some guests went right to the bocce court to play just in time before the rain.
It was an afternoon of memorable joy when all who attended felt a closeness of family and pride in sharing what was an exceptional expression of Italian culture. Visit www.ilcircoloflorida.org for more information.
