Sixty-Thousand Sicilians were recruited to work in Louisiana's Sugar Cane fields from 1870-1920. We have started fundraising for a 12' high monument to be placed on a 4' pedestal to honor those whose shoulders we stand on. Fundraising Bricks will line the roses around the monument. Brick Prices: 4" x 8" for $200.00; 8" x 8" for $500.00; 12" x 12" for $1,000.00. Pedestal and Step naming options available.
Location is Houmas House & Gardens on 35 acres in Darrow Louisiana. Houmas House has the adjoining 30,000 square foot Great River Road Museum, which has a display on the history of the Louisiana along the Mississippi River and is expanding its Sugar Cane exhibit to include information on these 60,000 Sicilians.
Visit our dedicated website with more details and including brick size options and options for placing a name on the pedestal or steps.
We will be placing Brick Orders each time we have 10 bricks to order. Bricks will be on display located with the scale models around the state of Louisiana. Once the total has been reached, we will order the marble monument.
