Following 20-year absence, Italian Festival returns to Italy

Long-time residents and new comers gathered to help rebuild an Italy tradition on Saturday. The Italian Festival and Parade, which originally started to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the town's founding in 1879 and continued until about 20 years ago, once again took over the main street in Italy.


Parade floats loaded with waving children and adults tossed candy to the eager spectators before the musical entertainment began in the pavilion across from the town hall. Residents said they were glad to see the city looking for ways to bring the family event back to the town. Vivian Brooks said she remembered coming to the festival as an adult and always enjoyed watching the people who rode their horses in the parade.
