Italy has finally returned to investing in the olive oil sector. The national olive oil plan allocated €32 million in order to, among other things, strengthen the quantity and quality of production, promote Made in Italy extra virgin olive oil abroad.
A sort of "ghost" evoked in nearly every debate on olive oil starting from the mid-90s has now finally been exorcized. Twenty years ago Italy -- which until then had been the undisputed global leader in terms of production -- was overtaken by Spain. Recently, Spain's advantage in terms of output has only increased.
