Ancient rituals, new voices: two Italian requiems

Feb 11, 2015 928

The William Ferris Chorale, Chicago's internationally acclaimed professional choral ensemble and Artist-in-Residence at Loyola University, continues its 43rd season with "Ancient Rituals, New Voices: Two Italian Requiems" a program of two large-scale a cappella works composed in post World War I Italy. Featured will be the American premiere of Bonaventura Somma's Missa Pro Defunctis (1917), written when the composer was just 24 years of age.

Also presented will be the Chicago premiere of Ildebrando Pizzetti's Messa da Requiem (1922). Both works are set in a lush harmonic palette reminiscent of Puccini and Respighi and will deliver an impact that is both powerful and immediate.

There will be two performances of this program – February 28 and March 1st. See details below. It is expected that seats will fill quickly, so ordering early is strongly suggested.
