One of the most incredible aspects of Italy’s rich culinary diversity is its bread. Across the country, every region, town, and village has its own unique, delicious type of bread, deeply rooted in local tradition. Each year, an award is given to the best bread in Italy—and this year, the honor went to Milazzo, a town in Sicily in the Messina province.
A well-known food and wine publication featured reviews of 614 bakeries across Italy in its latest edition, showing an increase in bakeries awarded the coveted “Three Loaves” (Tre Pani)—the highest recognition, based on ingredient quality, craftsmanship, and overall concept. This year, 65 bakeries earned the top rating. Leading the list is Piedmont, with 10 bakeries recognized, followed by Lombardy with 9, and Lazio with 8.
