Cavalleria Rusticana is an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni to an Italian libretto by Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci, adapted from a play and short story written by Giovanni Verga. The great Italian stage and screen director Franco Zeffirelli made these two operas in a magnificent production starring Placido Domingo, with Georges Prètre conducting the Orchestra and Chorus of La Scala.
