"Winner! Winner! Salame dinner!" declared Deborah Casagrande of Galt after winning not one but two salames in three attempts at the Molinari and Sons Salame Toss booth, just one of the fun things to do at Sunday's Festa Italiana at the Lodi Grape Festival Grounds.
Billed as "A Celebration of Everything Italian" and organized by San Joaquin County's long-established Italian community, the nonprofit event — Sunday was its third edition — raises funds for student scholarships and prizes for essays celebrating Italian culture. It has even helped refurbish a historic bocce court and publish a book, "Italians of San Joaquin County," last year.
