Some area high schoolers got a little taste of Italy, and a little extra dough, Wednesday night in Lima. It was the CIAO Scholarship Dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The mission of CIAO, or the Charitable Italian American Organization, is to hold fundraisers that make contributions to numerous local charities and award college scholarships to area high school seniors while preserving and promoting Italian culture and traditions.
They gave out 15 scholarships to students who go above and beyond. "They are fantastic in the classroom but we also look at things like community service, athletic achievement, musical achievement," said Doug Wise, President of the Lima CIAO. "We look at the whole child, the well-rounded kid."
