The "crib of the lake", the magic of underwater Christmas in Peschiera

Until January 9, 2022, you can admire the underwater nativity scene in the Canale di Mezzo in Peschiera del Garda in the Verona province, in Veneto. Realized for the first time by the Sub Club Peschiera del Garda in 1980, in honor of Lake Garda, since then this tradition lives again as the first example of underwater crib built with the precise intent to make it visible to all.

In fact, it can be admired without resorting to diving, thanks to the presence of the nearby Ponte San Giovanni which serves as a panoramic balcony that can be used by everyone. The installation is composed of 26 metal sculptures proportioned at human height, sculpted with a blowtorch, then painted with reflective paint, and positioned on the bottom of the canal.

On the evening of December 24, the Nativity scene is completed with the laying of the Baby Jesus. With the support of the Peschiera Sub Club, the Baby Jesus is lowered into his manger on the bottom of the Canale di Mezzo, accompanied by choirs and Christmas carols.
