Shouts of "Andrea, we love you!" and "Forza Italia!" rang out through the enormous Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening, when thousands of fans gathered to listen to the Italian crossover tenor Andrea Bocelli. Mr. Bocelli's concerts often follow a similar format, with half the program dedicated to operatic excerpts and the other half to lighter fare. It is in popular songs that Mr. Bocelli excels, his warm, expressive voice eliciting an emotional response from listeners on Wednesday.
He was accompanied by the New York City Festival Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Kohn. The visual effects included dramatic lighting that encompassed the whole arena and films projected onto a screen behind the stage. There were tackier elements as well, like the quartet of sultry young women in tight trouser suits who provided backup in some songs.
