Dion DiMucci, best known by his stage name Dion, is an Italian-American singer-songwriter. One of the best rock singers of the time before the British Invasion, he is renowned for fusing straight blues, rock, doo-wop, and R&B into his music.
DiMucci, who was born in an Italian-American household to a vaudeville performer in New York, grew up traveling with his father and became interested in country music. He also grew to adore the blues and doo-wop performers he heard on the radio and in the neighborhood pubs. He began making recordings in the late 1950s, initially performing as Dion and the Belmonts’ main vocalist.
