One of Los Angeles' strengths is its diversity. The city, indeed the entire county, is a melting pot of backgrounds and cultures (even if they don't always melt together as much as would be ideal). Many see Los Angeles as a singular 21st century city precisely because of its mix of people including (but not limited to) Latinos, African Americans, Asian Americans and people of European descent.
Many of these backgrounds are celebrated at museums and cultural institutions across the region — Downtown's roster includes the Japanese American National Museum and the California African American Museum in Exposition Park, as two examples. Last week, Los Angeles Downtown News reported on the newest addition to the lineup: The Italian American Museum of Los Angeles opened Sunday, Aug. 14, at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument.
