
The breast cancer treatment has changed dramatically over the recent years. It started out with surgeons doing radical mastectomy. Now the surgeons do partial operations removing the tumor and using radiation on the part of the breast which can be administrated in the operating room with electrons.
Dr. Gardner has developed the advanced medical techniques, in collaboration with Dr. Umberto Veronesi, of the Oncology Institute in Milan, Italy. He has joined forces with the Italian physicians and engineers, in bringing state of the art, intra-operative electron radiation therapy to South Florida, as a unique first.
Dr. Gardner is a leading researcher in the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Gardner is one of four investigators in the United States and Europe, leading an FDA approved 2nd phase research, to treat breast cancer with heat (hyperthermia). He has conducted studies of pancreatic surgical procedures in patients with pain of chronic and relapsing pancreatitis, as well as the role of regional lymph nodes in anti-tumor; antibody production.
On April 19, 2015 he was honored by the Association of Italian American Educators Scholarship Gala dinner at the Chateau Briand in Nassau County, New York for outstanding achievements in medical research. Cav. Josephine A. Maietta, President of AIAE stated "It is a distinguished privilege to honor Dr. Gardner for his efforts to aid 51% of United States population that happen to be women in most need of his medical advancements."
The first member of his family to go into medicine, Dr. Gardner was born and raised in New London, Conn. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Rochester and medical degree from State University of New York's Upstate Medical Center. Dr. Gardner completed post-education with internship and residency at Columbia University's Presbyterian Hospital in the city of New York.
Dr. Robert Gardner is Founder and Director of the Palm Beach Breast Institute. He holds numerous Hospital appointments and associations. He is a proud graduate of the prestigious Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital Surgical Training Program.
