Josephine Posterivo vowed to make learning Italian easy, during an introductory course she's teaching at St. Athanasius Education & Community Center in West View. Posterivo, of Ross, herself struggled with learning English after moving to Avalon decades ago as a teenager from Italy's southern Cosenza province.
"I really tried to educate myself," she recalled. "I was so disappointed. It's so hard when you don't speak the language and cannot communicate with anybody. You cannot make friends." A longtime educator, Posterivo has been teaching beginning level Italian at St. Athanasius since 2014 and this fall, the center added an intermediate level course.
